CSS/XHTML Tempate coding

XHTML is a newer and slightly different form of HTML. The letter "X" at the beginning stands for eXtensible. What it does is that it significantly enables to simplify and improve the code. All of the high-level coders use XHTML which is much stricter, but produces well-formed documents and enables automated processing by other XML tools.

The essential philosophy behind Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is to separate the content or main part of the code from the graphic elements that serve to change the visual presentation such as the colors, fonts, and layout. Prior to CSS both of these parts were intertwine in one HTML (XHTML) document or file. Such code was quite confusing and subsequent editing of a web page without CSS can be very inefficient and costly. Cascading style sheets are completely separated from the actual code in a special file type with the suffix ".css"
and therefore the whole code is well arranged and easy to edit.

How to recognize whether any webpage is properly coded?

The most significant factor of well-coded web pages is that in the actual HTML code is not included anything that would be relevant to the graphic elements or website layout. The code includes only items relevant to the organization of the content structure – the sequence of headlines, paragraphs, or bulleted lists and etc… The CSS file then contains the individual or comprehensive definitions that format these structures.

The advantage of using CSS is that whenever needed, you can quickly change the appearance of headlines, blocks of text or more complex content editing without altering the HTML code itself.
